Kerry On Your Corner Stops in New Bedford and Fall River

On Wednesday, August 6th, Senator John Kerry visited the towns of Fall River and New Bedford as part of his "Kerry on Your Corner" series. In Fall River, Kerry was joined by U.S. Representative James McGovern, and Fall River Mayor Robert Correia. In his introductory speech for the Senator, McGovern further excited the already enthusiastic crown by describing that we need to make siginficant changes for the better in our country, in order to correct the disorder created by the current presidential administration. He optomistically stated that we as a country and as a state are on the cusp of making such vital changes. Correia then expressed the importance of Senator Kerry's work in the Fall River community, and the necessity for these efforts to be able to be continued. To a majority older audience, Senator Kerry then went on to say that if prescription drugs could be bought in bulk, they would be more accessable and affordable to senior citizens on Medicare. Since Republicans are trying to prevent such ideas from being put into practice, Kerry further stressed the importance of electing the right people into office.

As written in The Herald News, Senator John Kerry not only spoke of his desire to continue to represent the Commonwealth as Senator, he also demonstrated his enthusiastic support for presidential candidate Barack Obama.

John Kerry visited the city Wednesday to drum up support not only for his bid for a fifth term in the U.S. Senate, but for Barack Obama’s run for the White House.
“I bring the best news of all,” the Massachusetts Democrat proclaimed as he received the microphone from U.S. Rep. James McGovern. “There are only 166 more days of George Bush.”
With that news, Kerry shifted from handshaking to delivering a message of what a Democratic Party-controlled Washington, D.C., can do for the nation.
He rallied against presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain as Bush clone, saying the Arizona senator has voted in line with the sitting president over 90 percent of the time during the past eight years.
“We don’t need a president that is 90 percent George Bush. We don’t need a president that is 10 percent George Bush,” Kerry said. “We need people like Barack Obama and Jimmy McGovern.”
