KERRY ON NOAA’S DECISION TO UPHOLD MASSACHUSETTS’ OBJECTION TO PROPOSED FALL RIVER LNG PLANT
BOSTON – Senator John Kerry praised the Department of Commerce’s decision to uphold Massachusetts’ objection to a proposed LNG facility in Weaver’s Cove.
The
Department determined that “adverse coastal effects – particularly
navigational safety concerns associated with delivering LNG to the
terminal by tanker vessel up the Taunton River – outweigh the national
interest.”
“This
is great news for the thousands of people who live up and down the
Taunton River. This project should never have been proposed. The city
knows it, the state knows it, the Coast Guard knows it, and now the
Department of Commerce knows it too. It is far too dangerous for so
populated an area,” said John Kerry. “This is a step in the right
direction and we will not rest until this ill fated project is
abandoned for good.”
