Kerry to ride 110 miles in Pan Mass Challenge Saturday to raise money to fight cancer
BOSTON - Senator Kerry will once again ride in this year's Pan Mass Challenge to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute's Jimmy Fund.
Kerry, himself a cancer survivor, has dedicated his ride to his good friend and colleague, Senator Ted Kennedy, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
"When you've survived cancer, you know the responsibility that comes along with it. This year it's especially poignant and meaningful. Ted Kennedy has taught us all how to fight, how to legislate, and now he's shown us all how to fight cancer with courage and character. The measure of this man is nothing short of incredible. He's a hero for fighting cancer, and a hero for taking time out from his treatment to return here to vote to save Medicare. I'll be thinking of him every mile of the ride across the state we both love," said Kerry.
This is the sixth year Kerry has participated in the ride.
The Pan Mass Challenge is the single largest fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund. Last year the event raised $33 million, and since its inception it has raised more than $204 million dollars.
