Poll: Kerry won't flop in Senate race

By Herald staff and wire reports

Sen. John Kerry is fielding attacks from the left and right but a new poll gives him a 94 percent chance of winning re-election.

The Rasmussen poll released yesterday shows Kerry getting 58 percent of the vote to Republican Jeff Beatty's 27 percent. The poll gave just a 6 percent chance of Kerry being upset in November. Kerry also has a 60 percent favorability rating among Massachusetts voters, up from 54 percent in June.

Thirty-nine percent of voters had an unfavorable view of Kerry, the poll found. Beatty, meanwhile, had a favorability rating of 25 percent and 30 percent unfavorable.

Forty-four percent had no opinion on Beatty, a security professional and former CIA operative.
